November 2010: A New European Office in Crete

  • by

The main news in November 2010 on the archived crewing blog was an expansion in Europe.

New branch in Crete

On 1 November the agency announced that it had opened a new branch office in Europe. It is located on the Greek island of Crete, in the Chania region near the Port of Souda. The post invited visitors to call in and promised that the standard of service would stay the same. A second version of the same announcement appeared under a different brand name used by the group at the time.

A larger European team

Alongside the new premises, the agency increased the size of its European operations team. A new colleague, who had come from Germany, joined the operations department in the Crete office. Her background is described on the European team page.

Vacancy notices

Two short posts in the month advertised urgent openings for a chief officer and an electrician on container vessels, noting that candidates needed a US visa. They are typical of the kind of notices a crewing agency publishes, and the application details are not repeated here because the roles are long closed.

Why a Mediterranean office?

Souda is a long-established port, and a base in the Mediterranean puts a crewing office closer to ships and seafarers in the region. The archived post does not give a reason, so this is only an observation. Compare the operating centres on the Philippines team page.
